New Resort Opens in Orange County
A new option is available to visitors looking to stay in
Orange County. A Big Log Cabin in the Clouds was reconstructed
from a log cabin built in 1863. It is located on a 120-acre
nature preserve near French Lick Resort Casino. It is owned
by Carl and Terri Pryor, who also operate A Little Log Cabin
in the Woods and Blue Prairie Bed and Breakfast.
The reconstruction and restoration preserved the cabin’s
historic architecture while adding creature comforts such
as a chef’s kitchen, designer baths, luxurious bedding,
central heating and air conditioning and hand-crafted furniture.
Press Release
Visitors to Orange County have another option when booking
an overnight stay or a weeklong-vacation. A Big Log Cabin
in the Clouds opened recently, providing guests with a private
historic cabin nestled within a 120-acre nature preserve
only 15 minutes from the bustling French Lick Resort Casino.
Recently reconstructed from a log cabin originally built
in 1863, the cabin sits on a secluded hilltop to offer a
front-porch view evocative of the Great Smoky Mountains.
The cabin originally stood within 10 miles of Abraham Lincoln’s
boyhood home in Spencer County, Indiana. The hand-hewn logs
– many 300 years old – were carefully disassembled,
preserved and reassembled as the cabin now open for visitors.
The reconstruction and restoration preserved the cabin’s
historic architecture while adding creature comforts such
as a chef’s kitchen, designer baths, luxurious bedding,
central heating and air conditioning and hand-crafted furniture.
All restoration work embraced state-of-the-art “green”
technology to conserve energy and protect the surrounding
environment. A huge front porch with Adirondack chairs and
rockers overlooks the best views and connects via walkway
to the hot tub under the stars.
Birding and wildlife viewing are excellent year around.
Guests can enjoy more than two miles of private hiking trails
through beautiful woodlands and native prairie as well as
many other trails in the adjacent Hoosier National Forest.
Situated on a peninsula surrounded by Patoka Lake, the cabin
is minutes from three boat ramps.
The area has a wealth of recreational opportunities within
a 15-minute radius. These include winery tours; fine dining;
championship golf courses; two historic hotels for touring,
shopping and dining; wildlife viewing; boating and fishing
on Patoka Lake; hiking in the Hoosier National Forest; antiquing;
historic train rides; skiing at Paoli Peaks; cycling; exploring
caves; trail rides; and casino gaming. And this all comes
wrapped in some of the best scenery the Midwest has to offer.
A Big Log Cabin is ideal for special occasions such as
honeymoons, anniversaries and girlfriend and golfer getaways.
Many people find the cabin so relaxing that they require
no additional entertainment. However, complete vacation
planning and concierge service are available.
Carl and Terri Pryor own and developed A Big Log Cabin
in the Clouds. In addition, they operate two other establishments,
A Little Log Cabin in the Woods and Blue Prairie Bed and
Breakfast.
Ten years ago they moved from Indianapolis to Orange County,
where they’ve spent a decade developing their property
as a wildlife habitat, establishing a tall-grass prairie
and wooded paradise that’s a mecca for birdwatchers
and unsurpassed for watching fall color.
Terri is an attorney who also serves on the board of directors
for the Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Carl
is a former executive at Dow AgroSciences who has a Purdue
University degree in forestry and natural resources management.
